Dear Elise
You have changed so much in the last month!! You a have really started to assert your own personality and your likes and dislikes are becoming much more apparent, now that you can communicate. And boy do you love to communicate! You love to use your voice, practising how loud you can sing and shout! “Avril” is one of your favourite words (it sounded like “Abwol” in the beginning, but your pronunciation is getting better), and you follow her around devotedly, interested in everything she does. You get quite upset when Avril wants some time to herself on the couch or in her room, but that's something you'll get used to.
Your vocabulary is growing daily, and right now you can say juice, walk, up, Avril, Dada, Mama, Elise (Ah-dees) doggie, moo, duck, baba, book, toast, apple banana (NANA), elbow, radio, ball, please (pees), cheese (cheeee), Vienna (ee-en-a) and you are starting to put together sentences like 'Avril pee' and 'Bye bye Mama'. You have already learned many of your colours – blue “Booo”, purple, yellow “yehyo”. When you are upset you cry and cycle through Avril, Mama, Dada repeatedly chanting in a distressed voice until you are OK.
You love to turn on your music box when being put down to sleep for the night, but right now you say 'off' when turning it on! Horses and doggies are your favourite animal and you love to point out doggies excitedly even while we are driving in the car. Pictures of horses are always greeted with a hearty 'NEIGH”, which you shout even when you hear the word 'horse' being read in a story.
You love to dance, climb up on to the couch or chair and flop over. You also love doing blasters on the chair with Avril, dancing with the radio (yayyo) in your hand, swinging in the swing and being held upside down and spinning around and around.
We haven't been out much, as either you, Avril or I have been sick pretty much since November, but yesterday was a beautiful spring day, and I took you for a ride in the wagon, which you loved, giggling like crazy as we raced down the driveway and hills on our walk with Cooper.
Your favourite foods are bananas, pasta, toast, chicken, juice ('JOOO!'). Surprisingly, you don't much care for berries and blueberries are always spit out. Peanut butter seems to be causing you a bit of an allergy, we've noticed your eyes get read and even some tiny hives the few times you have had it, so we've decided to hold off a bit on that.

Aaaaaaaah
Dear Elise,
You are becoming quite the comedienne! Your favourite jokes are upending all your cereal from your bowl and putting it on your head and drinking all of your water/juice and emitting a loud burp, followed by several fake burps.
Your favourite activity is to push a chair up to the couch, climb up and bounce around up there with your sister. You also love being picked up and turned upside down, often dive-bombing out of my arms adventurously!
Suppertime is getting a bit of a challenge, you don't seem to want to eat much, smooshing your food all around and throwing it on the floor. Seems like your teeth might be bothering you too much to eat.
You can now say ball, up or 'up-a' it comes out, mama, dada, avril, doggie, dolly, baba, yes or 'aaaaaaaah' it comes out. You can also point out your hair, eyes, ears, tongue, tummy and feet! Whenever we say the word 'teeth' you spontaneously run to the sink, climb up and spit, eager to brush!

Toast!
Dear Elise,
You know what you want, and it's not baby food. In the past little while we have been exposing you to more and more new foods, blueberries, toast, cheese, chicken and pork are your favourites, and you don't want to go back, steadfastly turning your head and shaking 'no' when the spoon approaches. One exception is applesauce, which you will peer suspiciously at, until you remember that it's the Good Stuff and not blended up beefandspaghettimush (i wouldn't eat that either).
Today you had the biggest giggling fit of all time! You and Avril were in the bath and Av was drumming her feet on the bottom of the tub, which created small splashes and for some reason this was hilarious to you!!! It was a good 10 minutes of laughing! Always lightens dad's mood to hear that before going to into work!

walking yes indeed!
Dear Elise,
You are getting the walking thing down! Avril was the first to see you walking on October 4th. Mom and Dad were busy in the kitchen and all of a sudden Avril shouted out 'hey look guys, elise is walking she's taking steps!' sure enough, you took a few more across the kitchen floor! you're getting better every day and getting more and more adventurous.
Your first 'joke'
You scrunch up your eyes, chin and nose and make a snuffling noise and think it's hilarious when we make your funny face back to you :)

Almost walking
Dear Elise,
you're almost there! shuffling along the couch, scurrying along the ground after your sister, it's only a matter of months or perhaps weeks before you'll be taking your first steps!
we have started giving you milk, as you hate formula and you are really good at holding the cup yourself! you are loving feeding yourself, especially bananas and beans!

Your First Camping Trip
Dear Elise,
We took you for your first camping trip this weekend. We went to Rock Point Provincial Park in Dunnville.
The first night you were a little unsettled with not knowing where you were when you woke up and the night turned very cold so we piled you onto the air mattress with Avril, Dad and me. That was also the first time we have all shared a bed together!
You absolutely loved being outside and playing with your toys on the blankets! I think that your favourite part of the weekend was your first swim in a lake. I took you out in a floatie ring and you had a great time splashing and riding the waves!
You certainly seem to have inherited the camping gene from your dad and me :)
I'm looking forward to many more camping adventures together!

Earthquake
Dear Elise,
We had an earthquake yesterday! It was a 5.5
You slept right through it :)
It wasn't terribly bad where we were, just a little shaking and nothing broken.
You made your first distinct "dada" sounds this morning! You still haven't put together the sound with who your Dad is, but that comes next. I love listening to you talking to your toys, Avril or me. You make the most wonderful gurgling sounds and your voice is so expressive!
Love,
Mommy
